A Veteran Monument
is normally constructed in the memory of a significant event, person or a
specific group of people having a historical, cultural and social importance
and heritage. During the ancient period, when the rule of the king was
predominant throughout the world, lot of historical monuments and memorials were built to commemorate significant
events or occurrences. These structures have been inscribed in our scriptures
and continue to remain a very important part of our existence that reminds us
of the greatness of our ancestors. These monuments are usually huge in size and
their construction is also extremely unique resembling the architectural style
and design of the period that it was built in. These large monuments, due to
their historic significance are therefore legally protected by the respective
governing countries based on certain guidelines as prescribed by the country’s
law.

Another
distinct feature of the monuments is that some of them were dedicated to pay a
tribute to a prince/ princess’s death and therefore a tombstone was built after burying their body and the structure was
therefore built in their remembrance. There are various examples of veteran tombstone throughout the world.
One of the famous veteran monuments is the Vietnam Memorial in the U.S which
was built to honour the death of every freedom fighter who lost their lives
fighting for the pride of his country. There are tombstones that have the names
of certain army personnel along with their name, date of birth, rank and branch
of service inscribed on it. There are professional tombstone makers who
specialize in the art of inscribing the details of the deceased on different
types of stone that can be placed on their grave to honour their death.

In general, most granite is the most commonly used for the manufacture of tombstones and monuments. Selecting granite as a tombstone or a tile has gained popularity in40 years in advance. Many companies use computer models of efficient design of the machine and written on granite. This allows increased production and greater precision in the production of memorials and gravestones. But there are many other options that are routinely used in the indicators available in or near the graves are placed in burial at the cemetery display. Marble offers selection of more durable stone.
The most attractive feature is the texture of slate. Engraving can be easily done on the slate and the sculpture of the letter can be highlighted by painting over. However, because of the softness, it is not long survive, and it often tends to flake or crack. But this is one of the most affordable markers that can be used as tombstones or headstones. These days, the use of bronze (metal) to make tombstones can be seen everywhere because of the high potential functionalities. Bronze can be made into any shape and form and are actually mixed with other metal alloys such as copper, tin, lead and zinc. The manufacture of the gravestone monuments of bronze or involve the use of small fragments of bronze in a pot and expose them to intense heat and the temperature at about 2200 degrees, so the melting of the metal. Headstones are memorial stones erected over graves to mark the remembrance for the person resting in peace. Memorial headstones are considered to be lasting symbols of remembrance. Though many types of materials are used for making headstones, but granite and marble are most commonly used stones which come in various different varieties and colors. Granite is usually shinny polished headstone material, where as, marble is unpolished stone that come in mostly white color. Due to improved production techniques and reduction in transportation costs, the prices of granite has considerably gone down and this has resulted in relatively static prices of headstones monuments and memorial tombstones. Marble is considered to be quite good for carving and very elaborate design and symbols can be made with them. Skilled artisans can do intricate artistry and sculpting on marble headstones tombstone pieces and can make almost every type of designer lettering symbols. However, the main down side of marble headstones and memorial tombstone pieces are that they start weathering over the years and so can not be last very longer and can not be looked upon as everlasting.

Granite headstones can last longer and does not weather as marble headstones do. Granite headstones can be cleaned with soapy water and can retain to their glory after being washed out properly. But, normal washing and cleaning is fine for general grim and dusty surface, where as, if very old granite stone grave monuments and memorials have to be cleaned, then that might well require a chemical which can remove the deposited dust and dirt carefully. This thoroughly cleaned up task is generally performed by memorial masons who are hired for cleaned and up keeping of headstones and tombstones. Letter inscriptions on marble granite headstone once cut may never have to be re-cut since the lettering done will remain as sharp and prominent after many years as they have been cut originally. The only remedial work of applying enamel color coating on these headstones has to be taken care of during the maintenance and touching up tasks. And, the enamel coating also does not cost high and is relatively cheap process. There are many companies offering maintenance and re-touching services of headstones and memorials and one can find these companies on internet very easily.
At times, a headstone or a tombstone subsides and goes out of level while placing it on the grave. Since any normal size headstone may weigh around a ton, so it is expected that the concrete base platform should be raised and then packed under the earth. If any headstone piece has to be fixed on a concrete base, it should settle well and re-leveling should be done at least twice so as to get it affixed. A headstone mason should be hired to re-level at least twice and will charge a very nominal amount for this. At many places, anchor fixing procedures are becoming very popular as these services offer safer fixing of headstone memorials in the cemeteries. One can find a number of companies online offering such anchor fixing procedures.
Jermarmonumentshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00298033341933542480noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125654612669447896.post-64746003627517177422011-08-10T23:35:00.000-07:002011-08-10T23:35:03.581-07:00Various Types of Granite Colors for Memorial Headstones

Memorial tombstone is used to commemorate and mark the remembrance of a loved one who has passes away. For many years and centuries, these memorial headstones and tombstones are used to mark the resting place of the beloved person. These memorial markers are used for paying tribute to the people who are no longer in this world. These memorials markers in the form of headstones and tombstones are made from durable stone materials like granite and sandstone or metals like bronze. Since these materials can last longer in any type of weather and any type of climatic condition, they have been proven for better endurance to other elements like molds and fungus. Since granite is a very hard stone and comes in different colors, they are widely used in most of the countries for making headstones and tombstones. There are several different types of granite color groups available in the market. Grey granite color groups include barre grey, moonlight grey, coral grey, sierra grey and cloud grey. Though moonlight grey and coral grey are commonly used as base for bronze memorials, by far the grey color can be seen in most of the cemeteries as marble granite headstone or tombstone markers.
Brown color granites consists of Dakota mahogany, colonial rose, carnelian, lac du bonnet and other brown shades. The pink color group of granites include Salisbury pink, starlight pink and morning rose qualities, where as, the red color groups have Indian red, sunset red, mountain red and wassau red shades. Since red granites have mystical appearance, the pink ones are known for their graceful hues and delicate appearance. The blacks include academy black, India black and black galaxy color tones and produces the most brightest reflection when polished to a high sheen. Not every type of granite color is well suited for any headstones tombstone because some of the finer grain qualities might be an excellent choice for carving while others can be used as granite bases for bronze grave monuments and markers. Coarse grain qualities of granites are preferred more for bronze grave markers. The coarse grain qualities include sunset red, starlight pink, moonlight grey and coral grey.
Another type of material that can be used as memorial headstones monuments is bronze. Since bronze is a metal alloy which was used for making many other applications like weaponry, tools and art sculptors, its use in the making of memorial headstones and markers was invented more recently. Bronze metal memorial monuments and headstones have gained popularity in the recent past and their demand is growing at a faster pace. Bronze monuments and headstones have longer durability and offer better maintenance features than any other stone material. Bronze metal can be molded into any shape, form and size easily and can be blended with other metal alloys like copper, tin, lead and zinc so that it can be made stronger. There are many headstone and tombstone manufacturers who offer customized bronze grave markers as per the specifications of the customers. One can search through internet as well for knowing about these types of companies.
Jermarmonumentshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00298033341933542480noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125654612669447896.post-54567523453269108262011-08-07T21:28:00.000-07:002011-08-07T21:28:25.261-07:00Use of Bronze for Making Headstones

Many different types of headstones made with different types of materials offer varied number of features. Generally, granite being a harder stone is the most commonly used material for making headstones and monuments. The choice of granite as headstone or tombstone gained popularity in the early 40’s. Many companies use efficient computer stencil cutting machines for designing and lettering on granite. This allows a higher level of volume output and greater accuracy in making monuments headstones. But, there are a number of other options which are widely used for making affordable markers which can be placed over or next to graves at the site of burial in a cemetery. Marble offers a more durable choice of making a headstone. Since it is a harder rock, it is considered to be the best option for carving and sculpting. Skilled artisans and sculptors use different types of tools for making beautiful and crafted lettering and symbols on the headstones and tombstones. Headstone made in marble offers beautiful remembrance of your loved ones who no longer exist in the world. Marble headstone requires special care and maintenance because of its vulnerability to elements like molds and fungus that usually grow on porous stone surface.

The most appealing feature of slate is its texture. Engraving can be done very easily on the slate and letter carving can be highlighted by painting on it. However due to its softness, it does not survive for long and often has a tendency to flake or crack. But it is the one of the most affordable markers that can be used as headstones or tombstones. These days, use of bronze (metal) for making headstones can be seen everywhere because of its great potential features. Bronze can be made into any shape and form and are actually blended with other metal alloys like copper, tin, lead and zinc. The making of bronze headstone or monuments involve the placing of small bronze fragments in a pot and exposing them to intense heat and temperature at around 2200 degrees which results in melting down of the metal. After the metal completely melts down and becomes liquid in form, it is poured into the molding and kept for sometime to cool down.

The finishing part of the metal consists of removing the imperfections created by the molding process. Small grinders are used for removing the minor imperfections and for the rounding of the edges. Polishing of letters and giving artistic touches to the finished bronze marker is done in the last stage of the process. Several coatings of brown oxide paint are done on the marker. After drying up of the paint, a special solvent is used to remove the raised areas of the marker. Several coatings of lacquer are also applied on the marker for the final finished look. There are many online and offline headstone and tombstone manufacturers and suppliers who offer different types of bronze grave markers and other stone material markers which can also be customized as per the requirement of the customer.
Jermarmonumentshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00298033341933542480noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125654612669447896.post-43855128645702346262011-07-26T23:55:00.000-07:002011-07-26T23:55:46.256-07:00Want to Clean Headstones?

The look of the headstone will tell you the entire story. Its colour and texture will also contribute a lot in enlightening you. The date on the tombstone will also let you know about the kind of stone used in its making because some stones were quite popular in a certain period, and it will help you in knowing what was used at the time of the burial. If you don’t get anything concrete with these judgements, you can simply ask the caretaker of the cemetery to have the deep insight in the making of the various kinds of headstones. Ask about the opinion, and you might hit the bull’s eye. Don’t forget it is important to know about the material as it will be an important step in the cleaning process as the different materials require different kind of cleaning.

The next thing that should be paid attention is what you are actually cleaning. Is the tombstone dirty due to prolonged years or the dirt accumulation is because of water? You should also give a thought if the headstone is really old, and you have to really work hard in order to remove all the mosses and the stains from it. You can also have a look if the gleam of the headstone is fading and is in a requirement of new polish and scrubbing. By keeping all these things in mind, you will be able to acknowledge all the things that are needed to make the headstone squeaky clean.

Make sure you don’t damage the stone; if it is already in a bad state then you have to be extra careful.

As a final tribute to the years served in the United States military, the government provides deceased service men and women a military memorial headstones. It is a simple, yet very effective, way to honor the military accomplishments made in life even after death. It is a final and lasting tribute fit for those who served any time in the military.

This lasting tribute is provided through the Department of Veterans Affairs, or the VA. Upon the serviceman or servicewomans death, surviving family members may apply for the military memorial headstone by submitting an application to the VA. This service is provided free of charge to the applicant. This government provided marker or headstone is available for unmarked graves of any eligible Veteran. The grave may be located in any cemetery in the world and the date of death is irrelevant in this program.

The VA will also provide a headstone or marker for eligible veterans that passed away on or after the date of November 1, 1990, even if the grave already has a marker provided by a private source. If the veterans grave is privately marked already, the applicant may submit an application for one of three options. Headstones, markers and the new medallion (available by April 30, 2010) are the available selections.

Upright headstones are available in both granite and marble. If the applicant chooses the flat marker, the options include marble, granite and bronze. When making the selection, the chosen option must be in line with the previously existing markers or headstones at the cemetery where the veteran is to be buried.

Veterans that have chosen to be cremated also have an option provided by the VA. Niche markers are an available option. These markers are used to mark the columbaria that hold the cremated remains of the deceased veteran.

The process is slightly different for veterans that have opted to be buried or memorialized in a state Veterans cemetery, national cemetery or military base/post cemetery. When this is the case, cemetery officials will order the headstone or marker for the deceased veteran. The inscription will be decided upon by the veterans next of kin or an authorized party.

It should be noted that the spouses and dependents of deceased veterans will not be eligible to receive a military headstone or marker furnished by the government unless they are buried alongside the deceased veteran in a state Veterans cemetery, national cemetery or military base/post cemetery. This helps to keep a uniformed look in the military cemeteries across the nation. If the spouse is buried outside of the listed cemeteries, the headstone or marker expense becomes a private matter.

It is also important to noted that while the headstone or marker is provided free of charge by the government, the arrangements for having it placed at a private cemetery are not. These charges are a private expense and are handled by the applicant.
Jermarmonumentshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00298033341933542480noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125654612669447896.post-36463496472688838842011-07-02T04:16:00.000-07:002011-07-02T04:16:06.882-07:00Headstone Memorial for a Loved One

Memorial headstones are one of the most popular and traditional ways to memorialize a loved one that has passed away. It is a way of remembrance that also shows the deceased proper respect even after they have gone on. It is a lasting memorial that will keep a loved ones name alive and well long after the burial.

Making the final arrangements for someone who has passed on can be a very trying time. There is a lot to consider and take in during a very short period of time. Once the major arrangements are finalized, thoughts often turn to how the deceased will be memorialized at their place of burial. Headstones are the number one way to remember and honor the deceased.

Memorial headstones come in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials. It is up to the ones left behind to honor the deceased in a proper and fitting manner by choosing the most appropriate headstone available, whether it is bronze or granite.

Unfortunately, it is not always as easy as just simply picking out the prettiest one. Some cemeteries have strict regulations that must be adhered to. It is up to the deceaseds loved ones to follow the rules and buy accordingly.

Before purchasing a memorial headstone, the buyer must research the cemetery where it is to be placed. The intended cemetery will be able to put to rest any concerns that you may have regarding headstone selection and cemetery guidelines. They will be able to inform the buyer what is and is not allowed. This will let the buyer purchase the headstone with the utmost confidence.

There are several issues that the buyer should go over with the cemetery regarding headstones. The most obvious is regarding size. Does the cemetery place restrictions regarding the dimensions of the headstone? Is there a minimum or maximum size restriction?

The types of headstones that are allowed must also be established. The two most prominent headstone types are upright and flat memorials. Some cemeteries only allow one type, while others allow both. It is up to the cemetery as to the type of look it wishes to project.

Does the cemetery place any color restrictions on the memorial headstones? This restriction is relevant to both bronze and granite headstones. What about vases? Some headstones have integrated vases that hold flowers and arrangements. Before buying a headstone that has a vase, the buyer should make sure this type of memorial is allowed.

The procedures for delivery and installation should also be verified before the purchase of the memorial. Does the cemetery impose any extra fees for this service?

These restrictions should not hamper the search for the perfect memorial. In fact, these restrictions should only be viewed as guidelines to make the search for the headstone easier. A headstone should be a purchased wisely and with love. The buyer should never feel like he or she settled. This is lasting tribute to one that was loved in life and should be purchased as such.
Jermarmonumentshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00298033341933542480noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125654612669447896.post-75068537842236261642011-06-20T03:09:00.000-07:002011-06-20T03:09:29.126-07:00Types of Stones for Headstones

Graves and memorials mark the remembrance of your loved ones. Gravestones, headstones or tombstones are memorial markers made of stones and placed over or next to graves at the site of burial in a cemetery. They are simple upright slabs carved out of stone with semi-circular, rounded or arched shaped tops. This is mainly done for marking identification on the grave of the person resting in peace in the same cemetery where there are other graves as well. War memorial are monuments made to mark the celebration of victory and commemorate those who died or injured in the war

Monumental masons usually create, repair and install the headstones. Many types of stones are used for making tombstone or headstones. The most commonly used are:

• Granite: Granite is a hard stone and requires good level of skill and expertise for carving. The carving is generally done by hand, but, modern methods of using computer- controlled rotary bits and sandblasting has made the carving work easy.

• Marble or limestone: Marble or limestone is meant to be the best for carving. Skilled sculptors use percussion tools like mallets, axes, toothed hammers and adzes for hitting. For rough shaping of stone and block size needed for carving, pitching and wedge tools are used. Tools such as lettering chisels, points and claw chisels are used for chiseling the figures and symbols.

• Fieldstones: They are considered to be the earliest markers for graves. Natural fieldstones are made with carving of a symbol and the name and age of the rested person.

• Sandstone: Sandstone is a sedimentary rock and consist quartz and feldspar sand sized minerals or rock grains. It is a semi hard stone and can not break under normal circumstances, until and unless being dropped. Waterproofing is done on sandstone to enhance its surface resistant against water and protect it from dampness, fungus and algae.

• Slate: Slate is a textured stone, but slightly porous. It is mainly used for letter carving and often highlighted with white paint.
Jermarmonumentshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00298033341933542480noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125654612669447896.post-31481428620992976842011-06-11T02:57:00.000-07:002011-06-11T02:57:47.213-07:00Design Your Own Headstone & Tombstone
The internet is truly amazing. Over the past few years, it's replaced the yellow pages, put a new spin on banking, and connected the world in ways never before imagined. Nowadays, there's very little that can't be accomplished with a few clicks of the mouse and a couple strokes of the keyboard. You can find just about anything on the internet. And, now, you can add designing your own headstone and tombstone to that list.

Of course, designing your headstone and tombstone isn't typically something you squeeze in between gardening and rushing your daughter off to soccer practice. But, it is something that people, eventually, devote some time and thought to. Certainly, there's an initial wave of morbidity hits you, but once you move past that, you should see the value in this opportunity. Designing your own headstone lets you have the final say. It allows you to add a personal touch to a grave marker that will memorialize you forever.

For many people, it's important that their personality shine through their headstones. For example, if you you're a soft-spoken, unassuming person, you might opt for a simple headstone mounted flat on your plot. If your personality is a bit louder, you might decide on a larger upright tombstone. Also, in addition to choosing the physical size and shape of your headstone, you also have the opportunity to write your own epigraph.

People have been writing their own epigraphs well before the internet. It allows you to get the final say. But, unlike before, you can see how it will look in a design template for your cemetery memorial.
But, if you're feeling lofty and poetic, go for it. These are in fact your last words—make them count!

Very few people like to actually think about death. But, like it or not, it's inevitable. So, rather than put the design of your headstone and tombstone on the shoulders of your mourners, take some time and let people remember you by something from you.
Jermarmonumentshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00298033341933542480noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7125654612669447896.post-79449624831922668732011-06-11T02:49:00.000-07:002011-06-11T02:49:42.523-07:00Why are Granite Headstones a Good Choice?
The loss of a loved one leaves a void that no one can fill. The grieving process is painful and families struggle to cope with the loss of a loved one. Long after the person has departed, the only things that remain are the memories that one will have to live with. The mortal remains will have a designated place in the cemetery and this is where the headstone will be placed and it will carry the relevant information of the loved one.

Headstones have changed over the years and they are not what they used to be centuries ago. Headstones are a very vital part of history. They help us identify the life and times of the person who is buried there. These serve as documented proof for historians.

Today, the memorial headstones have changed with the times. These days bodies are cremated due to lack of burial space and also because it is a more environment friendly option.

Even when the body is cremated the departed ones are given a memorial, and headstones are installed in the cemetery.

Care should be taken while choosing the headstones. If they are meant to last for ages, then granite headstones are the best option. These granite headstones and monuments are sturdy, long lasting, and require minimum maintenance. These days even the permanent headstones have changed. A simple plaque-like headstone is used to mark the grave of an individual. These are either made of bronze or granite. Sometimes it may be a combination of the two. This is normally placed at the head of the grave and directly above the ground. These help in preserving the memories of the individual.

Bronze headstones are a good option for permanent memorials. These include bronze plates with some special lettering as well as designs and the important details such as the name, date of birth as well as death etc. These bronze plates are then fixed to the granite slabs and installed in the cemetery as a beautiful memorial.

Earlier permanent memorials had huge upright pieces of stone that was sculpted, where there was written information regarding the individual’s grave that was marked. These types of memorials do exist even today, however, now these are used to mark a group of graves, such as the grave of the whole family. The upright, huge headstone and the smaller ones, all of them make a complete memorial of the family as a whole.

There are ‘pre-need’ memorials that are arranged by many people before they die. These headstones come with the inscription of the name of the individual at the time of purchase. If there are two names such as the individual as well as a companion, then both names are inscribed and then the date of deaths are added later on.

Headstones help us keep alive the memories of the near and dear ones that we lose. Granite headstones add the touch of elegance and charm that you would want to associate with a loved one always. Headstones are typically used as the memorial of any person who has passed away to serve as a remembrance of their life. This stone is usually installed in a chosen cemetery and this is mainly done as the identification mark since there are many people resting in the same cemetery. There are many designs available for all types of these stones and it would be best to go through designs in websites so that you might get an idea on this stone design you must select while placing the order. Details should also be given on the size and the letters that must be imprinted on the this stone. It would be wise to also ask your cemetery directly about the correct requirements regarding the size of the stone that is allowed in the cemetery along with the installation procedures and also the materials that can be used in the cemetery for making the this stone.
Whosoever has taken birth has to face it someday. Graves and memorials are the mark of our respect and remembrance for the loved one who is not there anymore. These marks of respect and love are usually identified and decorated with the tombstones made from different materials. Tombstones and gravestone memorials are generally made of different materials and are placed on the site of the burial. Generally, tombstones are made from granite and marble because both can be easily carved by hand and machines and, at the same time, these are strong enough not to break during the carving process. You can have letters, alphabets, numbers, emblems and artwork be easily carved on them.

Veteran monument memorials mark the remembrance of those people who gave their lives for their country while fighting in the war or other such action against the enemy and achieved martyrdom. So it is a way to eternally honour a special person or group of persons who attained martyrdom while achieving the larger and important objectives for their country. These are the marks of respect and gratitude from their countrymen to the departed souls. Generally, the names of the servicemen are depicted on the monuments to be remembered for their acts of bravery and courage for an achievement.

Hand carved granite monuments are created by highly trained artisans with their expertise in making traditional and modern architectural artwork. The shapes, sizes, dimensions and designs depend upon the customer choice and budget. These monuments can be depicting the religious symbols, pets and other arts and symbols of things which were dear to the dead person. Then, there can be different shapes of these monuments. There are the top uprights grave markers, slant, oval, upright headstones, canopy, heart, etc. that can be developed by the trained artisans.
These cemetery markers are used for marking of the grave so that it can be identified from among a number of graves. It is being done for age old centuries. They are made of granite, sandstone, marble, limestone, slate, bronze or brass. Old cemetery marker monuments were made of tall thin marble or granite stone that either stood up in the ground at the site of the burial or laid flat with the name of the person rested in peace. The wear and tear of the monument due to the aging time can result in the cracking and breakage due to ground shifting and weather elements. So, the monuments do need to be repaired with the proper tools and materials and the task should be handed over to an expert.
