Different Headstone Epitaphs

Placing a headstone on the grave of a person is the last of the rites which are performed to complete the post funeral activities. People like to buy the best of the tombstones for placing on graves of their loved and respected ones. Tombstone monuments can be made in different materials, like the traditional stone and cement structures, metals like bronze, granite, marbles, etc. The selection of the different materials for headstones can be done depending on carvings which are done on these. Whether it is the writing of the epitaphs or the etching or engraving of different art forms on headstones, people prefer to do a lot different types of works on these. The selection of the material shall enable easy working without any breakage.

People get various things done on these monuments. There can be written epitaphs, poems, verses, details of the circumstances of death, different types of symbols and characters, art forms and other different things which can be engraved, etched or sandblasted on these tombstones. Epitaphs are one of the most common things written on these grave markers. Some of the common ones are given below:

1. General epitaphs: These are the ones which are very general in nature and do not mention anything particular. These could be talking about the heavens and death as a way to lead to heavens or to a new life. These are comforting in nature, written with a view to bring solace to grave visitors.

2. Biblical verses: These are some of the most common epitaphs written on the grave stones. These are derived directly from the Bible and could be the ones which are best relatable to the deceased.

3. Descriptive of the deceased: Headstone monuments can also be used to write the epitaphs which best describe the person. These mention directly or elaborate on the personal qualities and achievements of the person. The writings can call the person a true warrior, a compassionate person, a philanthropist, etc. depending on his area of service or contribution.

Besides these categories of writings, there can also be the categorization based on the gender of the deceased or even on the relation or position of the person in the family. There are epitaphs for the pets as well. So, there can be the writing especially meant for the women or men or even the deceased children. Most of these are again comforting in nature, ushering in hope for future and asking us to the tread the good and virtuoso path shown by the others.

The significance of these epitaphs is that these show to the living person that life is an ongoing process and that there is nothing unnatural or extraordinary that has happened due to bereavement. The times might be very painful and unsettling for sometime, but eventually life has to come to its own. These words on the grave monuments or tombstone act as tension removers and motivators to move ahead in life and with life.
